Schedule Information: 3 days per week, 5 hours per day
Hours per Week: 15 hours per week; 42 weeks per year
Work Conditions: Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature. Work may involve lifting boxes and materials up to 30 lbs., pushing loaded book or media carts, standing on a step ladder, and moving about in the work area.
Duties of Position:
Acquires and maintains intellectual and physical custodianship of records with permanent disposition
Acquires materials in all formats from faculty, administrators, department offices and others that fully document the history of Harper College and the life of William Rainey Harper
Selects, appraises, arranges, and describes permanent records using established archival standards
Arranges records according/adhering to principles of original order and provenance
Works to integrate archival collections into the library’s online catalog
Oversees preservation of collections utilizing appropriate folders, boxes and containers
Digitizes relevant materials according to established guidelines
Completes accessioning by describing records with established archival standards
Provides reference services to patrons
Develops exhibits of important and interesting collections
Utilizes Preservica for cloud storage of digitized archival resources
Remains aware of changes in current and emerging archival storage and processing technologies
Remains aware of archival best practices
Trains and supervises student aides
Cross-trains Harper librarians in basic archival practices
Writes and submits grants
Other duties as assigned
Educational Requirements: MS from an ALA-accredited institution required, with a certification in archival practice preferred.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of experience processing archival collections in a special collections library or archive
Experience describing and cataloging archival materials
Experience with established archival standards including DACS and DublinCore and information retrieval
Experience with cloud storage software
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with public services in an archives or library setting
Understanding of current archival practices and developments in the profession
