Work Conditions: Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature.
Duties of Position: Assists the Information Security and Business Continuity Manager with ensuring the security and protection of all Harper College data, computers, network infrastructure and information systems. Conducts security assessments and evaluates and makes recommendations for new security measures. SME for advanced security tools.
Assists with identifying and defining system security requirements to protect data, systems, network.
Assists with conducting risk assessments using NIST standards and provides recommendations to mitigate risk identified through the risk assessment.
Assists and/or leads with the implementation of new security technologies.
Assists with monitoring, identifying and responding to security incidents utilizing advanced security tools.
Proactively monitors overall industry trends, best practices, and emerging system threats through participation in technology industry and higher education professional associations.
Assist with analyzing and identifying weaknesses in existing security processes and/or infrastructure.
Automates manual security processes and procedures.
Maintains and enforces information security policies and standards. Conducts periodic reviews of systems to ensure compliance.
Documents and maintains a program of system security best practices for managing College information systems.
Assists the Security and Business Continuity Manager with facilitating the annual external audit.
Provides security awareness training for Harper faculty and staff.
Executes a program of periodic security audits of key College systems.
Works with College departments to ensure the College is in compliance with Federal, State, and local legislative requirements surrounding information protection.
Assists the Security and Business Continuity Manager with other duties such as responding to security incidents, monitoring systems, and completing reports.
Maintains an IT Continuity Program to mitigate damage/loss from any incident. Plans and tests Disaster Recovery procedures.
Assists Security Manager with running tabletop exercises for Business Continuity recovery planning efforts.
Performs SaaS and third-party software security reviews and assessments using standard security tools and best practices.
Reviews and analyzes institutional-wide information security policies and procedures and assists Security Manager with cybersecurity recommendations to leadership based on significant threats and vulnerabilities.
Analyzes IT requirements and provides objective advice on the use of IT security requirements.
Gathers feedback from end users, trends, and best practices to guide continuous security improvements.
Responds to and assists with detecting, investigating, and resolving security incidents.
Assists with Mitigating/correcting security deficiencies identified during security/certification testing and or auditing.
Assists with creating, maintaining, and continuously updating all system security implementation, operations, procedure, and maintenance documentation.
Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or four (4) years of equivalent experience. Preferred certifications Security+, CISA, CISM, CISSP. Must be familiar with compliance requirements such as FERPA, GLBA, GDPR, and HIPAA and how these requirements affect higher education. Be knowledgeable with Security Standards including NIST, ISO, COBIT, etc.
Experience Requirements:
- 4 years’ experience working in IT security field required.
- Strong knowledge of advanced security tools, e.g., DarkTrace, LogRhythm, Microsoft Security & Compliance Suite.
- Ability to provide high level customer service, problem resolution, and support.
- Automates manual security processes and procedures.
- Ability to audit and manage user accounts in Active Directory and Exchange email/Outlook.
- Excellent time management and project management skills.
- Good understanding of TCP/IP Networking and VPN.
- Quick learner, strong/effective problem solver, team player.
- Experience working with external vendors.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating the day-to-day efforts of staff augmentation and project-based consulting resources.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to change and altar project plans.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems, MS Office and support of custom software applications.
- Monitor, identify and respond to security incidents utilizing advanced security tools.
- Experience in higher education or a campus environment a plus.
- Some system administration experience with Microsoft Office 365 technologies including DLP, Advanced Threat Protection for Email, Exchange Online, SaaS, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams
