Duties of Position: Responsible for analyzing, maintaining, and recording of financial data for general ledger accounts involving the application of basic accounting principles. Conducts special studies and develops or recommends accounting methods and procedures.

Using generally accepted accounting principles, analyzes, records and processes a variety of accounting documents.

Evaluates, recommends and assists in the development and implementation of new or revised departmental policies and procedures.

Analyzes, maintains and records financial data for assigned general ledger accounts, periodically prepares reconciliations, and prepares both routine and complex reports.

Identifies problems and gathers evidence to draw logical conclusions and corresponding solutions.

Researches, prepares and posts journal entries to transfer funds or make corrections as needed.

Uses analytical skills to serve as resource to others in resolution of complex accounting problems and issues

Investigates department expenditure and budget questions.

Reviews accounts payable batches for proper documentation.

Creates various reports for outside auditors and federal, state and other agencies.

Evaluates supporting documentation, answers inquiries and prepares audit schedules with variance explanations for the annual audit.

Coordinates data for the annual audit submitted by other accounting staff.

Assists in maintaining and organizing College financial records.

Performs requested reviews of internal controls and recommends course of action.

May exercise considerable initiative in order to meet assigned objectives.

Researches and analyzes special projects as required.

Responsible for completeness and accuracy of audit lead schedules, balanced to trial balance, with appropriate variance explanations and backup to support.

Responsible for reconciling health insurance premium invoices, creating and recording the appropriate transactions in the general ledger.

Assists in preparing the Unit Cost Study.

Assists in resolving accounting system issues as needed.

Posts batches and monitors interface to general ledger process; identifies errors and monitors corrections.

Assists with balancing A/R accounts.

Schedules the monthly close and prepares the monthly board report.

Responsible for maintaining the ledger of investment purchases and sales pertaining to all funds, recording and preparing journal entries for income, reallocation of investments among funds and monitoring premiums and discounts.

Analyzes and audits the inter-fund accounts for all funds.

Prepares bank reconciliation for cash accounts.

Cross trains as back up for other staff members, including Assistant Controller.

Extracts and manipulates data needed for year-end accrual.

Evaluates and analyzes data submitted by others in accordance with general accounting principles.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: B.A. in Accounting or five years of relevant experience required.

Experience Requirements: Minimum of three years of relevant experience required.
