Schedule Information: Monday-Friday 8:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Hours per Week: 37.5

Work Conditions: Worker is on call 24 hours per day to respond to risk issues or emergencies.  Worker is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.

Duties of Position: Oversees the functions of the Risk Management Department that is charged with the following:

  1. Emergency Preparedness
    1. Develop disaster response programs for non-police emergencies such as fire, tornado, explosion, chemicals pills, gas leaks, floods, utility disruptions and biological contamination
    2. In partnership with the Chief of Police, develop training and drills to ensure college preparedness for campus emergencies
    3. Maintain and enhance the Emergency Operations Plan and train staff on key roles in the Plan
    4. Prioritize and implement areas for improvement as identified in assessments of the college’s emergency preparedness
  2. Chair the Enterprise Risk Committee, a cross-functional team who will:
    1. Conduct ongoing risk assessments, prioritize findings based on economic impact and likelihood of occurrence, and recommend corrective actions
    2. Develop and maintain business continuity plan to document how the college will continue operations in the event of an unplanned disruption in availability of campus facilities
  3. Lead the Risk Management Department, including the Manager of Environmental, Health and Safety and a Safety Technician.  Duties of the department include:
    1. Campus safety
    2. Handling and disposal of hazardous materials
    3. Purchase of insurance, including workers compensation and property, casualty and liability insurance
    4. Ensure compliance with Federal and State safety, health and environmental regulations
  4. Prepare Risk Management budgets, including workers compensation and property, casualty, and liability insurance
  5. In conjunction with the Chief Information Officer, develop and maintain procedures for the college’s response to a data breach or ransomware event.
  6. Evaluate and develop college priorities and procedures
  7. Develop and maintain campus safety program for students
  8. Educate college leaders on areas of risk that might affect their department
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety or Hygiene, Environmental Science/Engineering, Business or other applicable program of study.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of five years of experience with similar risk management activities. Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA rules and regulation. Knowledge of emergency and hazard response procedures. Strong analytical, writing and PC skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products.  Effective communications skills to interact and communicate with all levels of the organization. Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
