Duties of Position: This position is primarily responsible for modeling complex educational problems, discovering student success insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques.
Analyzes complex data sets using research methods, quantitative and qualitative analyses, and statistical techniques to provide critical information to administrators.
Regular data extraction, manipulation, analysis, visualization and interpretation of results using complex programming and statistical tools.
Interprets and transforms institutional data into actionable information. Example projects may include:
- Enrollment forecasting based on financial aid package scenarios
- Student success predictive models
- Residency forecasting using population and migration models
Identifies new predictive modeling, machine learning, and advanced analytics methodologies based on the available data sets and implements dynamic models/algorithms focused on student-centered outcomes.
Interprets and summarizes complex information and concepts and translate them into easy-to-understand briefs, graphs, and charts.
Delivers effective presentations of findings to the College in a way that can be easily understood by people with varying backgrounds.
Documents analytic protocols, methodologies and results.
Creates and revises institutional dashboards; retrieves data from institutional dashboards.
Assists with validation of compliance reports and data submissions.
Conducts special ad hoc studies as requested.
Represents the Office of Institutional Research on institutional committees and task groups.
Manages multiple priorities and high volumes of work.
Performs other duties as needed.
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree including coursework in statistics. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience Requirements: Minimum 2 years working in an office that handles large quantities of data. Ability to retrieve, analyze, and present data in meaningful formats (tables, charts, graphs) to various audiences. Demonstrated experience using statistical software (e.g., SPSS or SAS, etc.), business intelligence software (e.g., Cognos, Argos, etc.), data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, etc.), and Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word) is required. Excellent attention to detail. Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to explain analyses to non-data experts and administrators. Mastery of writing clear and concise documentation, summaries of methodologies, and descriptions of statistical results. Prior experience working in higher education preferred
