Work Conditions: Work is heavy in nature and involves exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently. Work also involves lifting, grasping, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and driving equipment. Use of tools standard to auto mechanics.

Duties of Position: Repair and preventive maintenance of all College owned motorized vehicles. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns within or outside normal working hours. Must be able to work shift work, weekends, overtime, and holidays.

Maintains and performs minor repairs and minor body work such as welding and glass replacement on all Grounds equipment and College vehicles, overhauls and repairs 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines and diesel engines; performs preventive maintenance on all equipment on a scheduled basis.

Maintains and repairs snow removal equipment, including welding plow rams and yokes, and lawn maintenance equipment.

Keeps detailed repair and preventive maintenance logs on all vehicles and grounds equipment.

Assists in keeping fuel inventory.

Assists with grounds work when necessary.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required to provide his/her own tools. Large items such as welders and compressors are purchased by, and are the property of, Harper College.

Educational Requirements: High School graduate or equivalent. Certificate in Welding.

Experience Requirements: Five years' experience in repair and maintenance of automotive, 2-cycle, 4-cycle, and diesel engines or related equipment. Experience in MIG welding.

Licensing: Valid Illinois CDL License or obtain within 6 months of hire. Forklift Certification required.
