Work Conditions

While position is mostly office-based, the Field Operations Manager may be subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.  Worker is exposed to dust and cleaning solvents. Some heavy lifting (50+ lbs) may be required. At times it is necessary to load motorcycles into trailers by pushing them up the trailer door ramp. This ramp may reach a height of two feet. Work also involves frequent lifting, grasping, stooping, climbing stairs, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and driving equipment. Must be able to lift motorcycle weight from parked position to upright riding position and be able to push vehicles around shop, on to motorcycle lifts to work on them and onto trailers for transport. This position may require varied work hours, including evenings and weekends, and "on call" status for emergencies.

Duties of the Position 

Oversees the general operations all field, site, and maintenance/shop activities. Ensures fleet of 500+ motorcycles, utility vehicles, and trailers are maintained and prepared for utilization. Prepares and manages field operations budget. Provides general direction to Motorcycle Program mechanics and field coordinators.

Establishes and maintains good working relationships with vendors and service providers.

Orders necessary parts and supplies from vendors.

Responsible for overseeing storage and maintenance of all Program equipment.

Maintains service and repair records on each piece of equipment.

Maintains accurate inventory of all motorcycles, vehicles, trailers, and equipment.

Coordinates the delivery of equipment, materials, supplies, and fuel to all sites on a weekly basis.

Coordinates and conducts the set-up and breakdown of all ranges before/after the training season.

Ensures ranges are MSF certified, painted, and maintained according to established standards.

When necessary, assists mechanics with repairs/maintenance of motorcycles.

When necessary, may have to drive Program pick-up trucks with pump-activated fuel storage tanks and pull trailers with them to:

  1. Deliver motorcycles and equipment to a training site prior to the start of its teaching season. Return motorcycles and equipment to the warehouse at the completion of a training season.
  2. Fill the on-site gas caddies on a weekly / as-needed basis and re-fuel equipment.
  3. Assist in the painting of ranges at the beginning of the training season.
  4. Provide site support/maintenance as necessary

Ensures paperwork packets are at Motorcycle Program office by the end of the first workday each week.

Arranges or provides necessary training for mechanics.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Class DM driver’s license or equivalent from another state. Clean driving record. Verified completion of formalized training in the motor vehicle repair industry (Penn Foster Motorcycle Repair Technician School or equivalent) within 1 year of hire. MSF RiderCoach certification preferred.

Experience Requirements

Minimum 3 years of management experience. Must have the technical skills to assess and explain equipment problems, demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Excellent team skills, and the ability to work with and learn from others. Demonstrated proficiency in computer use with the ability to input and retrieve data in a Windows environment. Understanding of instrumentation and/or data acquisition equipment used in vehicle testing is preferred. Experience in fleet management, maintenance, and repair is preferred. Experience pulling large trailers is preferred. Fabrication experience such as welding, machining is preferred.
