Work Conditions: Must be able to maneuver in small spaces and lift and carry up to 50lbs. Must be able to exert up to 100lbs. force or push/pull. Must be able to perform to CPR. Travel is from academic and clinical sites is required.

Duties of Position:  

Responsible for assisting with general operations of the labs in the Foglia Center. Works with students in the nursing laboratory to meet individual needs related to enhancing skill and clinical competence. Additional responsibilities include directing the day to day tasks of the nursing peer tutors and assisting with the facilitation of high-fidelity simulation.

Coordinates and supports nursing laboratory activities in conjunction with the full-time faculty member.

Set up of student laboratories for each course/date/time as per course needs. Support primary instructor as needed during scheduled labs.
Assists with critical skill testing in coordination with primary lab instructor/facilitator of course.

Provides student instructional support in lab skills including scheduled tutoring and walk-in tutoring.

Provides course and clinical remediation based on written remediation form(s) sent from the clinical instructor. Provide feedback to the instructor as appropriate and document remediation completion on remediation form. Collects data of remediations as per program need.

Evaluates and remediates skills as identified by full-time faculty.

Assists instructor, as needed, with teaching and demonstrating lab skills missed by the student.

Monitor students' practice of skills during practice lab hours.

Coordinate & maintain the monthly schedule of tutors/lab instructor.

Discuss individual student learning needs with the faculty.

Maintains an Inventory of Equipment and Supplies. Monitor all equipment, ensure clean and in good working condition.  Provide for repairs/maintenance as necessary

Assist and follow faculty directed strategies appropriate for skill development.

Provide schedule of days/hours to students, faculty, course facilitator, and director.

Collaborates with nursing faculty to develop innovative skill lab activities to support the student achievement of nursing program outcomes.

Plans, implements, and evaluates clinical lab activities in accordance with program policies, course objectives, and program outcomes.

Utilizes instructional methods that promote student development of critical thinking, sound decision making, and clinical competency.

Serves as an expert resource to faculty in developing lab activities to be used in the classroom and laboratory. Assists faculty in the instruction of students to meet course objectives through utilization of the lab equipment.

Identifies and presents new techniques and policies as reflective of current nursing practice through use of evidence based research.

Provides supervision for clinical lab activities including all lab support staff including students and student tutors.

Coordinates the schedule of lab activities and guided skill of the week.

Assists with simulation activities as needed.

Attends clinical lab user group meetings or organizational groups at the local, state, and national levels.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: Required Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Preferred Master’s Degree in Nursing. Licensed Registered Nurse in State of Illinois.

Experience Requirements: Two or more years of relevant nursing experience or full-time teaching in nursing education. Experience with simulation equipment including high fidelity simulators like SimMan and SimMom preferred. Experience with instructional technology required. Computer proficiency required. Experience in supervising personnel preferred.
