Work Conditions: Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature. Travel from Harper to district high schools will be required. Flexible scheduling required.

Duties of Position: The Dual Credit (DC) Advisor supports high school students enrolled in Harper College dual credit courses towards completion of a certificate or degree in a timely manner. The DC advisor will work directly with students through individual and group advising sessions on high school campuses and in virtual settings to identify dual credit course pathways that align to college programs, with a specific emphasis on career and technical programs. The advisor serves as a liaison to high school counselors and assists in planning and facilitating events that connect dual credit students to Harper College.

Provides educational planning to DC students by developing a dual credit academic plan for a specific post-secondary credential or degree pathway.

Manages a case load of approximately 250 students and proactively monitors their progress toward completing their educational goals while in high school. Conducts 1:1 and group advising sessions on high school campuses and virtually.

Conducts outreach (e.g., phone calls, campus “walk-abouts”) to students in and their families to help them understand college culture and transitioning to Harper College after high school.

Develops and conducts workshops and events designed to assist students with orientation, career exploration resources, transferring, academic planning, use of support services and more. 

Helps students with their Harper transition planning such as applying as a credential seeking student, financial aid, orientation, etc.

Collaborates closely with the Center for New Student Orientation events to help orient and welcome students and their family to the Harper College experience.

Educates students with educational transactions (i.e., schedules, drop/adds, withdrawals, waivers, etc.) prior to enrolling at Harper College post high school. Troubleshoots and clarifies information about College policies, procedures, academic programs of study and other services offered by the College.

Teaches students how to use technologies that support the advising, transfer, and career development functions.

Identifies and communicates barriers to success and improvement opportunities to dual credit staff, faculty, academic program chairs/coordinators, and campus support service offices.

Develops and maintains advising and career resources in print and online including web, portal and social media.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, communications, or related area.  Master’s preferred.

Experience Requirements: One year of experience in student advising function or related area in an educational setting, preferably at the post-secondary level. Demonstrates excellent oral, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills.
