Schedule Information: Will require daytime, evening, and weekend hours as required.
Hours per Week: 20 hours/week

Duties of Position: Plans, develops, schedules, implements, and evaluates the Career Skills Institute program to meet the needs of the target population – students with intellectual disabilities.
Identifies the curriculum needs of students with intellectual disabilities to design a program which develops the necessary knowledge base and skills for their successful integration into a workplace. Identifies new program areas relevant to students with intellectual disabilities and initiate revisions to the existing Institute.
Designs, maintains and reviews the curriculum designed to provide career readiness for the target population. Prepares curriculum and course descriptions for state approval and approval from other appropriate agencies.
Represents the Institute to community groups and constituents, elected officials, related off-campus committees, potential students, and their parents.
Represents the college to high school special needs counselors. Receives their recommendations for potential students.
Coordinates the program’s admissions process by recruiting and conducting the evaluation of prospective students and recommending admissions to the CSI admissions committee. In addition to receiving application materials, interviews each prospective student.
Provides orientation services to new students.
Recruits, selects, recommends for hire, orients, and evaluates instructors for the Institute. Ensures that personnel meet stated qualifications and maintain appropriate certifications, as necessary.
Collaborates with Harper College faculty to create internship opportunities for credit program students to serve as classroom aides. Provide orientation and supervision to both categories of aides.
Identifies on-campus internship opportunities for Institute students. Initiates and coordinate internships.
Identifies members and coordinates a regularly meeting advisory council composed of community members and college staff for the purpose of planning and evaluating of the CSI program.
Collaborates with the Marketing Department to plan and implement promotion for the Career Skills Institute.
Prepares and recommends program budget to the Manager for Personal and Cultural Enrichment.
Collaborates with the college’s Grants Manager to seek program funding and student aid where possible and to monitor any grants received for the Institute.
Coordinates and oversees the accommodations and services provided to Institute’s students by instructors. Meets with students prior to their seeking the assistance of the Access & Disability Services office.
Ensures that safety policies and procedures are met, communicated, and followed by both staff and students.
Works with students on behavioral issues and potential violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
Communicates with parents of students as allowed by FERPA regulations.
Provides each student with an annual evaluation of progress in the program and at the end of the program a workplace readiness assessment. Prepares career readiness evaluations for students in the program and delivers those evaluations to students and legal guardians.
Submits to the Directors of Institutional Research and/or Access & Disability Services information regarding the Institute and students with disabilities served by the Institute for inclusion in the annual ICCB Underrepresented Groups Report.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager for Community, Career and Corporate Education.
Educational Requirements: Master’s degree in education or a related field required. Master’s degree in special education preferred. Specialized training for educating adults with intellectual disabilities highly preferred.
Experience Requirements: 3+ years of experience working with students with intellectual disabilities required. Experience in curriculum development. Excellent public relations skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite preferred. Knowledge of FERPA and other applicable laws and regulations as they pertain to students with intellectual disabilities and the ability to make judgments with respect to confidentiality of information required.
