Position Description and Duties: Harper College is seeking applications for a full-time tenure track position in the Dental Hygiene program beginning August 2021. The successful candidate will plan and teach courses in the Associate degree dental hygiene curriculum, which may include didactic, clinical and lab instruction. Delivery of learner-centered instruction includes development of relevant assignments, use of active learning methodologies, fair and accurate assessment of learning, informed feedback and comprehensive documentation of student progress. 

Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties including timely compliance with clerical and administration responsibilities related to teaching assignments and other program assignments.

Collaborate with full-time faculty colleagues to develop and assess program and student outcomes, using results to improve teaching and student learning.

Participate in and contribute to the development and/or revision of instructional methods, materials, and resources, student remediation plans, calibration activities for clinical instruction, accreditation program review; and other professional projects as assigned.

Support the goals, mission and core values of the Dental Hygiene program by building good relations through clear and authentic communication with coordinator, faculty, staff, students and other colleagues and departments throughout the college. 

Maintain active interest in and knowledge of current, evidence-based clinical and pedagogical that affects the practice of dental hygiene and delivery of instruction pertinent to teaching assignments. Apply emerging technologies and advances as necessary to perform in an efficient, organized and timely manner.

Attend program meetings, faculty development in-services and college or community service event, which may include nights and weekends.

Participate in professional development, both internal and external to expand knowledge of effective instructional methodologies and to maintain competencies and credentials required by program, college, accrediting, licensing, and other regulatory agencies. 

Participate in divisional meetings and college governance activities through committee service and/or other approprite activities.

Maintain formal office hours.

Educational Requirements: Master's degree in a health-related discipline or higher education. Current enrollment with a completion date scheduled is acceptable. Must have graduated from a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Experience Requirements: Minimum of three years recent experience (within the last six years) as a dental hygienist in a clinical setting. Documented evidence of experience in non-surgical periodontal treatment of complex periodontally involved patients.

Minimum of two years of recent clinical, didactic or lab teaching experience in an accredited dental hygiene program.

Computer literacy skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

Possession of a current Illinois Dental Hygiene license which should include current CPR certification. 

Illinois certification in local anesthetic and nitrous oxide administration (or approved equivalent per Illinois Board of Dentistry).

Membership in in the American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA).
