Job Description: This 4- hour course covers the following topics: the role of the phlebotomist, infection control and safety in the workplace, venipuncture collection equipment and supplies, skin puncture collection procedures, specimen handling, basic laboratory tests, quality assurance, communication skills and professionalism and/or 2 credit hour course supervising phlebotomy students at clinical sites.
Education Requirements: Minimum of an Associate's degree in the science or clinical laboratory field OR 60 credit hours from an accredited institution, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum of 30 credit hours plus 3 years of relevant teaching experience. Bachelor's degree and teaching experience in the phlebotomy or clinical laboratory field preferred.
Experience Requirements: A minimum of three years of phlebotomy experience in outpatient healthcare and two years of teaching experience preferred.
Current certification in phlebotomy by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Documented continuing education hours (2.0 CEU's or 20 hours) in phlebotomy, clinical laboratory science and/or education (including computer applications) within previous two years. Experience in outpatient healthcare as well as teaching experience required.
A one-page single-spaced statement of your teaching philosophy. In your teaching philosophy, please include how you approach classroom management, how you assist students, and how you use instructional technology.
Current AHA health care provider CPR card.
