Duties of Position: Provides leadership for the Student Involvement Division including the Center for Student Involvement, which includes clubs/organizations, student government, Veteran’s Center, community service opportunities and cultural/co-curricular events; Student Conduct; Athletics; Theatre and Box Office operations. The dean is responsible for administering the strategic growth of the College’s Health and Recreation Center and overseeing building operations as well as intergovernmental partnership agreements within the facility. Promotes student responsibility, civility, and engagement by facilitating the student conduct process, overseeing the Harper Early Alert Team (HEAT) and coordinating campus compliance with Title IX.
Establishes procedures consistent with College policy for the effective operation of the functional areas of the Division.
Provides for an effective two-way channel of communication between the administration and staff to ensure the integrity of the Division programs.
Demonstrates leadership in the core values of respect, integrity, collaboration and excellence within the Division and across the College.
Contributes to the success of the College’s Strategic Plan.
Conducts Title IX, threat assessment, and student conduct investigations.
Coordinates the Harper Early Alert Team (HEAT), including: ensuring members have access to training and resources, serving as oversight for case management, approving formal recommendations on behalf of the team, developing education materials for the campus, maintaining team records, and maintaining up to date procedures.
Coordinates the College’s compliance with Title IX and related laws, by ensuring timely response to Title IX complaints, conducting/overseeing investigations, reviewing and revising policies and procedures, monitoring outcomes and trends, ensuring provision of interim and permanent remedies where appropriate, guiding campus prevention education, and providing training for those involved in the investigation and/or resolution process.
Educates faculty and staff about student/faculty rights, campus resources, classroom behavior management techniques, Title IX compliance, and informal/formal methods of conflict resolution. Provides consultation to faculty/staff about individual student situations. Provides consultation and guidance to offices and programs regarding students’ rights and procedural matters.
Manages vision and strategic direction for Health and Recreation Center (HRC). Conducts yearly evaluative reviews and make recommendations for improvement.
Oversees agreement between Harper College and the Palatine Park District. Ensures compliance with Intergovernmental agreements.
Oversees Joint Program and Advisory Committee, which encompasses all HRC user groups and makes the recommendation for scheduling and usage within the facility.
Serves as direct report for HRC management company director and oversees adherence to the management agreement between Harper and the management company. Ensures that management company functions within the agreed upon budgetary guidelines. Ensures the management company staff meet the standards, rules, and behavior expectations of Harper College employees.
Stewards and reconciles the interests of Academics, Athletics, Continuing Education, Facilities, building operator, Northwest Community Hospital and preferred programming provider within the HRC.
Evaluates HRC offerings and make recommendations for student programming including wellness, intramurals, and other student engagement events.
Oversees implementation of wellness programming for students, faculty and staff.
Evaluates reports, monitors student utilization of the ambulatory care facility, and implements a strategic plan for student health and wellness.
Appreciates and supports diversity of faculty, staff and students.
Plans, organizes and administers service offerings and related budget management in the Student Involvement Division.
Oversees the athletic program (intercollegiate and intramurals), assures NJCAA compliance.
Supports the academic success of student athletes.
Oversees the administration of the Center for Student Involvement, programs and budgets which includes clubs/organizations, student government, Veteran’s Center, community service opportunities and cultural/co-curricular events.
Oversees management of Theatres, Box Offices and budgets.
Articulates and interprets administrative decisions and College policies.
Schedules and conducts regular meetings with the Division.
Develops and recommends an operating budget for the Division (education, auxiliary and grant funds) and assumes responsibility for the management of the adopted budget for the current fiscal year.
Allocates resources and implements procedures for the request, purchase and maintenance of Division equipment and supplies, and maintains accurate inventory control.
Manages supplemental health care account for qualified students who receive services from Northwest Community Hospital.
Pursues appropriate grant opportunities for programs and facilities within the Division.
Serves as an agent of the College within the community as related to the Division.
Promotes the visibility of the Division within the College and within the larger Harper community.
Is committed to regular professional development to acquire new skills and knowledge to promote effective academic leadership for the Division and the College.
Responsible for other duties assigned by the Associate Provost.
Educational Requirements: Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Community College Administration, Student Personnel, or related field required. Doctorate preferred.
Experience Requirements: Progressively more responsible experience in an administrative capacity within an academic environment or appropriate institutional setting required. Experience with the coordination of athletic and academic wellness programs and/or coordination of student activities preferred.
