Duties of Position: Manages the distance education operations and activities of the Academy for Teaching Excellence and the AcceleratEd Pathways Partnership Program. The manager is responsible for providing project management to support the development of new online degree and certificate programs, coordinating the College’s quality assurance program, and ensuring that academic and student support services are accessible to online and blended learners.
Manages efforts to develop fully online degree and certificate programs and new distance learning opportunities including planning new course development, marketing new online programs and ensuring appropriate faculty and student support is provided.
Assists the Dean of Teaching, Learning, & Distance Education in developing and implementing processes, guidelines and procedures and best practices related to online/blended teaching and learning.
Provides project management for the area, including setting an monitoring targets for new course development, faculty professional development, quality review of new course development, faculty access to course materials, provided by OPM, ets.
Coordinates the College’s quality assurance process for distance learning. Conducts regular evaluation of the process with the distance learning faculty liaison and implements process improvements in collaboration with instructional design team.
Works with Academic Support Services to ensure online access to content-based tutoring, writing center support, and success services based on faculty input and student outcome data. Ensures that support services are available through the Learning Management system.
Ensures that Online Student Orientation and Distance Learning Readiness Assessment is accurate and relevant. Works with Academy and student support staff to continually improve and update these resources.
Provides leadership for the AcceleratEd Pathways Partnership Program. Ensures compliance with external Online Program Management (OPM) contracts and recommends process improvements.
Recommends course section offerings based on new student projections and current enrollment and retention patterns in the AcceleratEd Pathways Program.
Manages student applicant pipeline for the AcceleratEd Pathways Program in collaboration with external OPM partners to maximize new student enrollment.
Implements retention plan for students in the AcceleratEd Pathways Program in collaboration with OPM partners, and recommends improvements to retention plan based on student outcomes data and partner feedback.
Leads redesign of Harper Online website. Monitors regularly to ensure accuracy and relevance of information online/blended degrees, courses, and student resources.
Monitors and recommends updates to distance learning sections of Academy for Teaching Excellence website.
Identifies opportunities to improve student outcomes in distance learning courses; recommend and manage projects aimed at improving student outcomes.
Works with faculty and staff to implement and monitor the efficacy of online testing methodologies.
Follows national trends, state and federal regulations and accreditation standards to ensure compliance
Coordinates with Institutional Research regarding distance learning data reporting and analysis for both operational and strategic needs
Serves on college committees and statewide organizations (e.g. Illinois Community Colleges Online -ILCCO) as appropriate
Perform related duties as assigned
Educational Requirements: Master’s degree required, preferably in an education-related field. Knowledge of national and state-level policy and regulatory issues related to distance education and financial aid required.
Experience Requirements: Excellent collaborative, communication and organization skills are required. Two years of experience with project or program management in an educational setting required.
Experience teaching or providing student support in an online/blended environment preferred. Knowledge of learning management systems, student information systems and virtual classroom technology preferred.
